Habitat homes are not given away, but sold to families who qualify, make a down payment, put in volunteer hours and can obtain a qualifying first mortgage at least 50% of the appraised value.

Habitat carries a 0% interest mortgage on the home for a period of 15-20 years until the partner family owns their home free and clear.

Builds only one home per year. The application process for each home opens in May of each year for the following year.
