Offers financial aid to help Township residents prevent loss of home, job, or utilities. Funds are available once every two years and provide help to meet basic needs, including:

• Preventing eviction or past due rent/mortgage
• Preventing utility disconnection
• Work-related expense necessary to getting or keeping a job (for example, uniform or licensing fees)
• Cost of prescription medication

Amount of assistance determined on a case-by-case basis. Program does not disburse cash as all funds will be paid directly to vendors.

City of Des Plaines Human Services' (HS) Emergency Assistance Program is available to assist Des Plaines residents at risk of having their water disconnected and/or assist residents/homeless individuals with emergency food gift certificates and provide information/referrals to community resources/services.

Elk Grove Township has staff who are trained Salvation Army Service Extension Volunteers. Clients who meet the financial and nonfinancial guidelines may receive up to $200 towards emergency assistance. The client must have a current 5-day notice of eviction or have an active disconnection notice for utility. Those who receive this grant may receive it once per program year. This money can be added to other funds to help make up a larger amount due.

The department's primary function is to provide financial assistance to qualifying residents through General and Emergency Assistance. The Human Services Department also oversees the Township's Food Pantry, which is available to the Township residents six days per week. Department staff are also Accredited Veterans Service Officers who are able to assist Township Veterans and their families in applying for qualifying benefits from state and federal agencies. Employment Services, such as offering assistance for interview skills, resume writing, and job searches, are also available through the department.

This provides one-time financial support through a documented crisis circumstance (such as eviction or utility disconnection) who meet the requirements. Applicants must meet income guidelines, provide proof of residency, and furnish application and documentation to support the need for Emergency Assistance. The emergency must be alleviated, and the resident must be able to show their income allows them to sustain moving forward. Applicants must be a resident of Orland Township, a United States citizen, or a qualified immigrant, and must meet all state-administered eligibility requirements.
