U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (United States VA) provides veterans with mental health services to treat conditions such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), psychological effects of military sexual trauma (MST), depression, grief, anxiety, and other needs. Medical centers and clinics provide consultation, evaluation, and treatment for a range of psychological issues.

Esperanza Health Centers operate a number of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) that provide behavioral healthcare including individual therapy and social-emotional groups. Individual therapy is provided 1-2 times per month. Appointments are 30 minutes and are geared toward short-term treatment. Behavioral health counselors do not prescribe medication but conduct a brief assessment and refer to a psychiatrist or primary care provider with recommendations for medication.

South Side Help Center (SSHC) provides mental health counseling for individuals and families with HIV or AIDS. The Mental Health Project provides counseling sessions that address major concerns, including disclosure to partners, family, and employer; what to expect as a result of a positive diagnosis; preparing for and dealing with the progression of the disease; and how/when to explain the ramifications of AIDS to their children. Support groups are also available for family and friends so that they may share experiences and help each other cope with the disease through moral support and camaraderie.
